Dr. Matias obtained his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees from the University of Chile and practiced as a general dentist for seven years before he embarked on a postgraduate orthodontic program in Argentina.
After immigrating to Canada, he completed the Canadian NDEB Equivalency Process to become a licensed practitioner in 2012. He worked as a general dentist, providing dental care to the underprivileged population in the Downtown Eastside. Dr. Matias recently completed the Orthodontic Specialty program at the University of British Columbia, receiving a Master of Science degree and becoming a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics.
As a former Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry, he mentored and evaluated undergraduate and graduate students in the General Practitioner Program. He has also delivered lectures to graduate Orthodontic and Pediatric Dentistry Programs in Chile and Argentina. Dr. Matias is an active member of the Canadian Association of Orthodontics, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Canadian Dental Association, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, an honor granted to specialists who write and pass a series of comprehensive examinations that represent a personal and public commitment to the standard of practice and lifelong learning.
Dr. Matias is trained in the latest orthodontic technologies and has robust knowledge in recommending orthodontic treatment that is well-suited to his patient’s needs, including improving facial appearance, self-esteem, and overall oral health.
Dr. Matias is proud to be a part of the myORTHODONTIST Coquitlam team and looks forward to meeting and treating patients every day. He is a caring and devoted practitioner committed to providing thorough orthodontic care in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
In his spare time, Dr. Matias enjoys long walks, hiking, biking, and spending time connecting with nature throughout the Pacific Coast.
